History of College

In the years after the establishment of the Sanstha, in course of time, along with the industrial development a new section -a class of workers -arose. It was uneducated though trained in trade. This community was predominantly inhabited in the industrial areas. This Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial development sector has been one of them. Perhaps the largest in Asia. Incidentally, it is on the periphery of Pune, the centre of education. However, education was out of reach for the wards of this class. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara on the line of this, it’s mission, changed the focus form rural to semi urban, & opened new college in this area in 1983. At its inception, it was a two faculty college with limited options of course. With increasing number of students the subject options & number departments increased which led to the development of the faculties right upto post graduate level. Not only this, but acknowledging the needs of the industrial areas, science faculty was introduced in 1992. Today there are as many as 22 departments under the three faculties. The college was renamed with the nomenclature of ‘Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya, Pimpri, Pune’ as a homage to the great social reformer Jotirao Phule in Maharashtra.

History of Sanstha

Rayat Shikshan Sanstha was founded in 1919 by Padama bhushan Dr. Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, for the education of the masses. The term ‘Rayat’ itself means ‘Masses’. Masses were scattered in the villages in the remote areas, where as the education was centered only in a few cities. At the same time it was too costly for the masses to afford. Instead Bhaurao Patil decided to take education to their huts. With this view he started a boarding school at a tiny village of Kale in 1919, which was open to all without any discrimination. In fact it was an outstanding experiment which involved social revolution of bringing the students from all the religions, castes, creeds and classes, not only to live under one roof but also to work, to study, to cook and to eat together. In those days no one could even dare to think of such social equalization. It was still a nobler gesture as the students were not charged either for their education or for their lodging and boarding. On the other hand the students were provided with some work who opt for ‘Earn While Learn Scheme’ which directed them to ‘Education through Self Help’ which has become the very motto of the Sanstha. For the welfare of the weaker sections Karmaveer started school in their own region at a minimum cost. Consequently, today the mother institute i.e. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara has under its wings scores of colleges, hundreds of schools and training institutes. It is not only the biggest educational institute in Asia but also unique for its educational experiments and social achievements

Facilities

Ambience:
Pimpri- Chinchwad is one of the popular Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra State. Pimpri-Chinchwad is famous for its industrial hub. Mahatma Phule Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya Pimpri, Pune -17 is located in Pimpri, near old Pune – Mumbai highway. The college is convenient in all respect to the students residing in sub-urban areas of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Majority of the students come from down-trodden families, backward communities and the families of industrial workers. The college has a beautiful campus. The building at the second campus is surrounded by lush green trees and has spacious ground. The college has a separate building for Science stream.

Physical Education And Sports:
The College is famous for its sports activities. Several students represent college at state and national level in the various games.

Library:
The College has its own full-fledged partially automated library consisting 59,269 books on various subjects. Internet facility is available in the Library for students and staff. There are reading rooms,book bank facilities available in the library for the students.

N.S.S. :
The College has National Service Scheme Unit. The N.S.S. unit consists 250 Students. The N.S.S unit of the college conducts various activities like tree plantation, Blood donation camp,cleanliness programme, cultural activities, winter camp at the village.

N.C.C. :
NCC Unit of Mahatma Phule Mahavidyalaya, Pimpri, Pune 17 is sanctioned under the central government Fully Self Finance scheme in September,2021. Unit has a sanctioned strength of 50 . It's associated with 1 Mah Sig Coy, Pune. Unit is actively involved in the activities which are driven by 1 Mah Sig Coy Pune.

Medical facilities:
As per the guidelines of University of Pune the college conducts medical check- up of all first year students. Besides this, an emergency medical aid is provided to students at Dr. Mahajan with whom the college has a tie-up. .

Parking Facility:
The College provides parking facilities for the staff and students to park their vehicles in the college premises.
